chasing fall colors, Northeast Oct, 2014

My trip begins with the flight from Santa Ana to Boston. I stayed with my friend Soukarith and his wife Socheata for a few days due to overcast skies and drizzling rain.
Went up to Salem just north of Boston on the second day with still no luck of sunshine.

I then went to Hartford, CT, to see a friend Chimezie. And we took a ride the next day north towards Manchester, VT.
we encounter this bridge on our route.

and this house nestled among the changing leaves.

We came to a small town on HWY 30; Townshend, VT, where kids were just leaving school. A park lends itself to my camera some falling leaves:

A further drive north shows more color changes. I encounter this driveway to someone's house.

We stopped for a potty break; and I took this near a covered bridge:

October 3rd, travel to Boston: below was taken from a highway early morning on my way back to Boston from Hartford, CT;

Cedar pond, Sturbridge, MA; on my way to Boston:

below: Oct 4th, Birch pond, Saugus, MA; it remains a cloudy day; so I left Lynn, Boston heading north towards Vermont; hoping for better weather.

Oct 4th; I took highway 93 to 495 to Lowell, then head north on Hwy 3 to Manchester, NH.
then to Concord and Laconia towards the White mountains. It was cloudy the whole way.
below: an abandoned church near a pond.

Below: White Mountain National Forest; interstate 93, near the end of the forest; It was raining quite hard by the time I get into St. Johnsbury to meet new friends through another contact.

the next day; October 5th, Sunday; and the sun had finally found me, or I found it.
I took a ride with Bouaketh north to Lake Willoughby, near Barton, VT;
Below are the results:

 below: Lake Willoughby, east side:
below: Lake Willoughby, southern point on 5A route;
the clouds danced in and out to play with the light;

Not far from the lake we came across a pond on our way back to St. Johnsbury:

after leaving St. Johnsbury, I spent the rest of the day driving south on 93 and came upon these:

October 5th; Somewhere on highway 93 going south on Sunday:

October 6th: after leaving the hotel, below: the Fore river near the Tate house museum, Portland, Maine.

Below; 1707 Office building; Atlantic foot and ankle center on Congress road, at the edge of the Fore River.

Another building down the road;

I ate again at J's Oyster; this time by serendipity with two friends Jim and Gail from Maine; who was just spending two days in Portland on errands.

From Portland, I took route 302 heading NW to Windham, ME, towards Lake Sebago, at the suggestion of Gail.

Dundee pond in North Gorham; the view below is from Windham Center Rd.

house on Middle Jam Rd, North Gorham.

below: near 202 south and depot street; on Black Brook river, Windham, Maine. This lake lies between two residential space. The trespassing was worth it.

Oct 6th, Windham, ME. After spending some time in a swamp taking the pictures above, I got back to my car. It was parked in someone's front yard, but the house was way back so I thought it would be fine; in and out. no big deal. When I came back a lady was looking over the car. Not sure how long she has been there. Nevertheless I told her that I was doing photography. I showed her some pics of the lake I just took. She pointed me northward to Gambo road and that there was a lake and a park. I headed that way and the results are below. The sun was setting, so needless to say it was perfect for me. They say in photography, as in most things; it's being in the right place at the right time. In this case, the place was by serendipity, the time.., as well.

this was taken below the dam.

Gambo Falls Dam:

Oct 7th, I'm next to the Hudson river. City: Hyde Park. Place: Vanderbilt Mansion National historic site. Kathi, a tour guide, was immensely knowledgeable of the Vanderbilt history.

A view across the Hudson River (below) from the mound of the museum.

my traveling companion.

I went up further north from the museum and sound the oldest Inn in US that is still in use (below).

The next ride takes me toward Virginia from New York.

Oct 10th; Falls Church, Virginia; I am at Great Falls (below). The trees here haven't change to fall colors yet, which gives me a reason to come back next year.

My trip ends here. I flew out of Virginia after visiting with my cousins and aunt for a few days.
